Get Tattooed At A Tattoo Convention

One of the features of a tattoo convention are tattoo contests. These usually have a whole bunch of "best of" categories: black and white, color, portrait, abstract, various placements, full body suits and more. There are also categories for best of the day and best in show.

Some tattoo artists are really interested in taking part in these contests, and some collectors are too. And then you'll find some artists aren't interested at all, and most people getting tattooed aren't either. If you specifically are or are not interested in taking part in a tattoo contest, this is something to talk about with your tattooist at the con. Best of the Day is ink that was entirely started and finished in a single day, and may require a serious investment in time and endurance for both tattooist and human canvas. Also recognize that contest tattoos tend to be more unique, larger and really represent a fantastic collaboration between the person doing the tattoo and the person who decides to wear it.

If you're going to get serious about contests, make sure you find an artist who is serious too, and take the time well ahead of the event to plan out what is going to happen. That's how trophies get awarded.
