Tattoos have become an accessory these days. At one point you only saw tattoos on bad boys, bikers, and folks in prison. These days they are everywhere and many celebrities in Hollywood have them and are expressing themselves.
To have a tattoo or not, that is the million dollar question.
Who has them?
Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, and Megan Fox all gorgeous women and they all have several highly visible tattoos all over their bodies. Angelina has thirteen tattoos and Rihanna has twelve tattoos are both quite successful in their careers while Megan Fox is relatively new to Hollywood she has 8 tattoos and is being compared to Angelina as the bombshell. She has appeared on countless magazine covers.
These days most people get them when they are young and then regret them later on. I've heard that they are addictive and most people have several of them.
Personally I don't have any and never wanted one. I've always admired others from a far. While I believe they are a form of art, I also think they should be discreet. I've seen women with them even on their necks. That is just plain tacky and won't fly in the modeling industry.
Many young women I meet from all walks of life are amazed when I tell them that tattoos as it relates to the modeling industry can limit their opportunities. They don't see the big deal or the correlation between the two. I then ask them how many Supermodels do they know have them. There may be a couple but I guarantee when they first started modeling they didn't have any.
While the modeling industry is changing and becoming more mainstream, tattoos are one of the things that they haven't gotten over yet.
I've been asked by many agents do I possess a tattoo and if so where is it located. Call it discrimination, unfair or nobody's business but at the end of the day that agency has something you want. The agent is your key to the client who then hires you and compensates you.
It is very distracting to see a gorgeous woman strutting her stuff on the runway wearing a fabulous outfit and then there's a big old tattoo on her arm. It cheapens the overall appeal of the garment that the model is wearing and trying to sell to the audience.
If you've been struggling to get representation from an agency, it could be because of a tattoo or even that cute little nose piercing that you have. Now tattoos may be acceptable if you are interesting in becoming a Video Vixen but if you're looking to model for Ford, Elite or any of the major players forget about it or get rid of your tattoo.
How do you cover them?
The only product that I know of that truly works is DermaBlend. It is relatively inexpensive in comparison to having them professionally removed. To check out the complete line click here http://www.dermablend.com/beforeandafter/.
How Do I Professionally Remove them?
There are so many methods to remove them and the prices vary. There is laser therapy, dermabrasion, and excision that I know of. Your treatment could depend on the complexity of the tattoo, how deep it is in your skin, and how much you can afford. Ultimately you are looking at more pain in removing it then it probably was receiving it. If you decide to go this route, make sure you research the doctor performing the surgery.
The next time you decide to get a tattoo, ask yourself will I be happy with it and the locate of it in 20 years. This could save you a lot of pain and money. If you are wanting to do something different try henna.
