Tattoos are very different in different parts of the world. It seems as if decorating the body is something that goes back 10s of thousands of years. It is a sign of distinction, a sign of being part of something and a sign of individuality and strength of character. It can mean so many things.

Perhaps, some of the most interesting tattoos that are often misunderstood come from the interior of South America where the Amerindians have lived for 100s of generations. In Bolivia, which is in the center of South America there is actually an Amerindian ruling as President.

Many people in Bolivia have in the past forgotten their Amerindian roots however some are now are using Tattoos on themselves once again as a symbol and a sign of solidarity with the native culture. There seems to be a new spiritual awakening and revitalizing of that ancient culture.

Tattoos are one way that people use to identify themselves with their social position and to show their individuality. Tattoos help them set themselves apart from the others. Amerindian tattoos in Bolivia are on the rise and many people who come from there probably display their tattoos as a show of personal strength and pride.

In some regards the Amerindian tattoos are very similar to those of other Indian culture such as the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas, but they are not the same and anyone that comes from Bolivia knows the difference, because they know the symbols, and sings of the ancient culture. Amerindians pride themselves on their spiritual position, their strength and their honor.
