More and more people are getting tattoos on a daily basis as it continues to become a popular trend among youth. Here are four things to consider about getting a tattoo before you actually go out and do it.

1. Your Skin - not just anybody can have a tattoo without having skin complications. We all have different grades of tolerance to outside agents. If you have very weak skin the wrong type of ink being used on your skin can end up being a very sad mistake. Some have ended up with serious skin problems for the sake of having a tattoo. If you do not know exactly how your skin would react to the ink, then it is a good idea for you to get checked out before you make a move.

2. Location of the Tattoo - where you are going to get your tattoo done on your body is more important than many people actually think. If you have to be discrete about having a tattoo for example there are only so many options that you will be left with. Do not just wake up and say, 'yes, I want it on my cheek.'

3. Hidden meanings - some people just go out to the tattoo parlor and point out on an eye pleasing tattoo design. They do not ever stop to contemplate the fact that a certain symbol may have a hidden meaning that may shock them if they were to ever find out what it is.

4. The Artist - just like having a portrait drawn, not all artists will portray you in the same way. The same applies for tattoo artists. Make sure that the artist you are going to use knows exactly what you want, and has the skill to pull it off. You may have the right design in mind, and you show it to him exactly as you want it to be. If he does not have the right skill to do it however, you may have to go for the rest of your life with something you are not pleased with and which looks nothing at all like what you wanted.

In summary before getting a tattoo give all the implications very careful thought. Don't get your tattoo on the spur of the moment. Find out all you can about tattoo designs and their application. Then if you still want to get a tattoo pick a good artist and have it done well.
