If you've spent days, weeks, or even months sifting through hundreds of online tattoo images, but still haven't come up with the right one, you may want to try your hand at creating your own tattoo design. Check out the following three tips for coming up with your own image:

1. Start with the end in mind

It's easiest to design your own tattoo if you have some idea of what kind of image you want to wind up with. Sitting down to a blank canvas and expecting to come up with the perfect design is nearly impossible. Before you start working on your design, choose 3-5 tattoo designs you like and try to identify what exactly you like about them. Then, try to incorporate all these elements into a cohesive design that suits your needs.

2. Use computer tools

Unless you're an incredibly skilled artist, you'll find it much easier to create your own tattoo design using computer tools than drawing it by hand. If you have a graphics editing program on your computer - like Photoshop or GIMP - you can cut, copy and paste various images that you like together, then resize and transform elements until you're happy with the design. You can also find tattoo sites that offer custom design tools that you can use to edit their stock images, which can be an easier way to get started.

3. Ask a friend

If you've been working on your design for some time, but still haven't come to any breakthroughs, ask a friend with some graphics design experience to help you put something together. Or, on the other hand, if you have come up with a design you like, be sure to run it by a friend to get a second opinion. Remember, this is an image you'll have on your body for the rest of your life - don't blow it on an amateurish design that'll age poorly over the years. Get a second opinion!
