A budding tattoo artist will first need to pick up the right tattoo supplies to begin practice

. This will not only include the machine, but many other items that you will need

. Ink, practice skin, needles, and even medical supplies will be needed

. Finding a set that has all of these supplies in one purchase is a great way to begin

. Not only do you have many places that you can find decent prices for these sets

. But you will be able to begin practice as soon as your kit comes to you in the mail

. You will need to also buy supplies that will let you keep your machine clean and germ free

. Some of these choices are a bit more expensive

. If you decide to stay in the business you may want to buy a little autoclave to keep those tools sparkling clean and free from infection

. Know the ins and outs of how to clean and tune your machine to make sure that when you do tattoo a person they will not get an infection

. Needles can be found easily from many locations, but you may have to decide on the tips that you buy

. A choice to buy either stainless steel ones that you will need to clean completely after each use, or a disposable type of tip

. These disposable tips may be a great way to save money on the purchase of a machine to disinfect your metal tubes

. Because if you use and throw away the tubes you will have no use for that autoclave

. However, like many artist you may find that the quality of many of these tubes that are disposable are not up to par

. Instead you may have many times that you have to throw one away before you are completed with your tattoo job

. The best thing to do is weigh the cost before you decide on this option

. Try and find a way to get an apprenticeship in a local shop to hone your knowledge

. You may not be able to practice while at the shop when you first begin

. But you will get some great knowledge on how to keep your equipment working

. Plus many other fabulous tips that you may not get from any other way

. You will find that unless you are an apprentice that most artists will not talk to you about the trade

. It is something that they seem to guard closely

. Perhaps they feel that you plan on stealing business from them, or something else

. But they can also help you once you get into a shop, find deals on supplies

. After a while, you will also need a good supply of thermal or stencil paper

. This will be how you apply the stencil to the body in order to actually do a tattoo

. Though you will need quite a bit of practice before you jump to placing a tattoo on a person

. Clean all equipment or dispose of it properly after each use and you will avoid any problems
