Things to Know About the Aftercare of Tattoos

So you finally got the tattoo you have always wanted. Let's talk about the aftercare of tattoos to keep it looking great for a long time. I'm gonna give you some tips to follow that will help you on the road to healing your tattoo. These tips along with talking to your artist will make things heal properly.

Day one you should apply some Vaseline to your tattoo then cover it. I would recommend covering it with some saran wrap for 3-5 hours, no more than that. After you remove the saran wrap wash the area with lukewarm water and soap. Make sure the water isn't to hot cause the skin is very sensitive, use a glycerin type soap. Once you have removed the Vaseline from the area go ahead and grab some paper towels (not a regular towel) and pat it dry. Next apply some bacitracin to the area. Going forward about the aftercare of tattoos, for the next 5 days you should wash the area 2-3 times daily and apply a little bacitracin after each wash.

Here is a few things not to do:

1. Try not to submerge the area in water
2. Avoid the sun hitting the area
3. Don't go tanning
4. Stay away from tight fitting clothing around the area

You will notice at some point the area will start to peel as the area starts to dry out. You then can apply small amounts of lotion to keep the area moist. It may scab (Please don't pick it). I hope some of these tips about the aftercare of tattoos help you in allowing your tattoo to heal properly and look great for a long time.
