Swallow tattoos are gaining in popularity. They were once upon a time only seen upon sailors, now even girls are getting these little birds tattooed upon themselves. With elegance and great little curves it is no wonder girls are now flocking to these tattoos.

They were originally given to sailors as a form of branding. To show that they had served time in the Navy and had been deployed at sea on at least one occasion.

Some sailors even got it because of the belief that if a sailor was to die at sea the tattoo would ensure their soul made it to where it was supposed to be, instead of being lost at sea.

Now these meanings have been somewhat muddled by all the non-sailors who have gotten it done since then. It has became a very great, unique tattoo to get done. These little blue birds can be designed in many different fashions. Some prefer to keep the tattoo in it's traditional form and model it after the original tattoos that sailors would get. Others prefer to customize it and make it uniquely their own.

Because of the curves that can be incorporated in these tattoos, they are often found on females following the same curves as their body. This can be a great way to get a tattoo, as it almost looks as though it was always there, and should be there. Almost blending into the body.

You can also make the decision between a single solo swallow or a flock of them in your tattoo. It really is a personal decision and will depend on what you are looking for and perhaps what you are symbolizing by getting it done.

Some may also opt to change the colour of the birds. Most tend to go with the more traditional blue swallow, but being as it is your own tattoo, you can decide on any colours you would like for it.

No matter what type of swallow tattoo you decide to go with, you can be assured it is one that you will enjoy for many years to come. It is no longer reserved for sailors and Navy boys, as the many girls who now sport the swallow tattoo can attest to. It can be the perfect feminine tattoo, or a very mescaline one. The choice is yours and is all in the actual design.
