Picking the perfect tattoo is extremely important. You want to be absolutely sure you made a good decision and won't have any regrets.

Here's how to ensure you pick the perfect tattoo for you:

1. Don't Go With Trends!

There are a lot of people out there with tattoos which were very popular in the 90's, but now the designs are no longer the cool looking tattoos they once were. Remember the chain link around the bicep phenomena? It used to be trendy, but now it is seen as outdated and sometimes lame.

2. Avoid having that friend of a friend do your design for cheap.

This is always setting the stage for disaster. Your ink is going to be permanent. Don't try to bargain shop, save up and have it done professionally.

3. Symbolism.

Tattoo's are excellent forms of symbolism. Try to pick a design which has some sort of personal meaning to you.

4. Avoid names most of the time.

Names are one of the most common tattoos that people get covered up. There are exceptions to getting names done though. If it goes with your design, or if it is your grandmothers name, then that's ok!

5. Go big, rather than small!

This may be a surprise to some, but more often than not people regret not having gone a size larger. Usually they want to be conservative and will go small, but afterward they realize a size larger would have been better.

6. Research your Design!

Take some time to research for your perfect design. Look at everything available, then make a decision. Don't jump on the first cool tattoo design you see. There could be much better designs you will like even more.

7. Visit an Online Tattoo membership Gallery!

These are great. Unlimited, high quality designs in every style, shape and design you could imagine. Make sure you don't go to a free gallery, but instead go to a membership gallery where you have to pay a one time fee to get access to all the thousands of designs. It's definitely worth it in the end, since your tattoo design is going to last a lifetime.
