Located on the main island of Oahu, right next to the community of Kaneohe and up on the shore of Kailua bay is the small enclave of Kailua. For generations this and the entire area surrounding it was known as a farming region. All that is gone now and today the small settlement is known for the premier quality tattoo shops in Kailua.

A Long Standing Tradition

Unlike tattooing on the mainland, tattooing in Hawaii goes back for literally thousands of years. Back then it wasn't done for mere decoration as it is done now but to mark a persons body for specific reasons. Perhaps to note the passing of a loved one and even to signify a persons social station in a tribal community.

A World Wide Reputation

Now though, people are getting tattooed in the tattoo shops of Kailua for a myriad of reasons. However; there is one commonality that can be found with all patrons of tattoo shops in Kailua Hawaii and that is that they all chose the small enclave due to it's world wide recognition for outstanding tattooing work.

Traditions of Hawaiian Tattooing

It is not at all uncommon in many Hawaiian families for the art of tattooing to be passed down from father to son for generation after generation. It's not only the skills and knowledge that are passed along but also a lot of art and tattoo concepts are passed along inside the family as well.

Tribal Art of the Tattoo Shops in Kailua

Of course the recent boom in the popularity of Hawaiian tribal tattooing has also effected the tattoo shops in Kailua. This is because they now have a reputation as being the premier source of the best and most authentic tattoo work of this type anywhere on the planet. This in turn has led to a recent trend in people flying from the mainland for the specific purpose of having work done in one of the many tattoo shops of Kailua.
