In getting Japanese symbols characters for tattoos, you need to learn much about Japanese symbols first before anything else. Japanese style tattoos may look cool and sophisticated but if done wrongly, they can leave a permanent mark on your body of how foolish you are.

In the English language we just have one set of alphabets - our A,B,C's that we learned from Sesame Street and at preschool. But for the Japanese, they have three alphabet sets. These are Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. They each have their own purposes in the Japanese language.

Katakana is used mostly for Western names like Cindy, Mike and foreign words that are not used that much in Japan.

Hiragana is the one more commonly used in daily Japanese life and are also used in their usual nouns and verbs.

Kanji are the modified Chinese symbols that look very elegant and "mysterious" when inked which is usually the reason why Kanji is used when tattoos are in order. Japanese style tattoos made in Kanji characters are seen as elegant and attractive.

If you are about to get yourself Japanese symbols-characters for tattoos, then you may want to head out to a Japanese tattoo artist so as to ensure that your tats will not be written incorrectly or that the Kanji will really mean what you want it to mean.

The problem with some (not all) Western tattoo artists is that they end up printing inverted symbols that mean nothing.

So to be on the safe side, in getting your Japanese character ink, make sure you go to someone who can actually understand Kanji.
