If you've got a tattoo that you can't stand the sight of then you're probably here trying to figure out the cheapest safe way of getting rid of it. You've come to the right place, in this article I'm going to briefly talk about your options in terms of cost so you know where you stand! I'll also give you some alternatives so you can consider those too.

Option 1 - Laser Tattoo Removal and Light Impulse Tattoo Removal

These two options are the most high tech of all removal procedures and therefore come at a cost. For either of the aforementioned treatments you can be expected to pay somewhere in the region of $200 - $500 per session.

The bad news is that on average you'll need somewhere in the region of 6-8 sessions depending on the size and colour of the tattoo in question.

Therefore you'll be looking at forking out somewhere in the region of $1,600 and $4,000 in the worst case scenario.

Option 2 - Dermabrasion

If you think you can handle the pain of the dermabrasion removal technique (essentially this is rubbing salt cover sandpaper all over the wound until the skin is red raw, letting it heal for a day and repeating up to six times over) then you'll also be forking out over a thousand bucks.

If you're in the UK you may think that you can get it on the NHS. It is highly unlikely they'd give you dermabrasion on the NHS for a skin graft from a genuine accident let alone a tattoo so don't count on getting the money from the government.

Option 3 - Skin Peels and other topical treatments

This is much less expensive than the two aforementioned treatments. You can use Glycolic acid or what's called trichloroacetic acid to fade your tattoo. The chances are you won't completely remove the tattoo but in most cases its sufficiently lightened. One peel can cost as little as $150 if it is in low concentration. It is likely though that you will need a number of peels before the results are acceptable.

Your Final Option - Home Tattoo Removal Kits

There's been a recent influx of home tattoo removal kits that are getting people some good results. The cost is around $50 - $150 and the results are reported to be similar to that of a skin peel. If you're looking to tattoo removal from home, however, I'd suggest purchasing a guide that takes through it step by step so that you don't do yourself and lasting damage such as scarring.
