If you are on the edge about getting a tattoo, a small tattoo is a perfect way to get your feet wet. It's easy to conceal yet will provide that intimate communication when you want to reveal it.

You wont' have to worry about the boss and those antiquated office rules that demand you keep your tatt covered. There is nothing worse then having to wear a long sleeve blouse in the hottest days of summer to cover up your body art.

If you come from a more conservative type family, one in which tattoos are frowned upon, but you want one anyway. A small tattoo keeps judgmental comments down because only you know what the experience is about, because you got a tattoo despite it all.

Let's be honest, tattoos still are a little bit trashy and a lot sexy. That's why some people will never get them, and others just can't find enough body space for more.

So which are the hottest small tattoo's today?

After interviewing a few tattoo artists in my local area, the consensus was that the most popular small tattoos that men and women are getting done are the konji (Asian symbols and letters) tattoos. Most requested place on the body? Top of the foot for women, rib cage for men.

Other secondary requests include small roses, hearts and skulls in areas of the body that are mostly hidden.

During the interview process I also picked up 2 other tidbits of info. Many tatt artists shy away from smaller tattoo applications because they, in some way, defeat one of the primary functions of having a tattoo on the body. Which is, to compliment the physical features of the individual.

A small tattoo is just that, too small for accentuating your bodies strengths and beauty.

There is also a body limitation related to body art. The smaller the tat the shorter the life span. You see, the body is an organ that will change and stretch over time so the clarity of a tattoo is limited to it's size. In other words, the older you get the more distorted your body art will become.

So whatever the motivation for getting a small tattoo, know that it has it advantages as well as it's disadvantages.
