7 Things Not to Do If You Want to Win Tattoo Design Contests

Today, a majority of tattoo enthusiasts are organizing tattoo design contests to get the best possible interpretation of their creative ideas from the experts in the industry. Gone are the days when people would promptly get their skins inked with any tattoo that they liked. Such online tattoo competitions are very helpful in giving different and interesting perspectives and interpretations to your custom tattoo designs. These contests are a good medium for the tattoo designers as well since they allow demonstrating a designer's skill in rendering his own tattoo taste and style to any custom tattoo design. However, there are times when even the best tattoo artists may not be able to match his/her client's expectations. Below are the seven things to avoid if you would like to win a tattoo design contest.

1) Researching on the person who created the contest: Knowing the contest creator personally will benefit the tattoo designer. But in cases when the contest creator is a stranger, researching a lot about him may sometimes confuse the artist. Knowing the creator's personal preferences, what he likes and doesn't like will limit the tattoo designer's creativity on a project.

2) Making negative comments about another tattoo artist online: Talking smack about another artist online just to get a step ahead in the competition is a grave violation against online work ethics and professionalism. Instead of gaining a following, tattoo artists who engage in smear campaigns lose opportunities.

3) Claim to fame: In line with the smear campaign we had discussed above, claiming that you did the tattoo of a famous person will not help you either. For all you know, the contest creator might just hate that famous person. So to be on the safe side, just stay mum and focus on the job at hand.

4) Trying too hard to please: Now, if this was a reality talent show, aiming to please would've earned you bonus points. But in the tattoo industry, aiming to please the contest creator will only lead to you creating very impersonal tattoo creations.

5) Charging extra: If you get to take home the bacon, then my biggest congratulations to you. After getting your prize, keep your end of the bargain by giving your design in its stenciled form. Upon handing over your design, never ever ask for extra payment. It speaks volumes about your honesty and work attitude.

6) Posting negative comments about tattoo design contest creator after rejection: This is a tattoo design challenge and like every contest, there will be one or a few winners as well as those who do not win. If you've had a streak of wins, don't get your hopes up believing that you'll be a constant winner. If you congratulate yourself that much, you'll lose grip of the fact that there's a possibility that you will also lose. If you ever lose, don't take it out on the creator of the contest. Take it as an opportunity to grow into a better tattoo artist.

7) Making threats against the tattoo design website: The website is just an avenue for all of these competitions to take place. It just serves as a tool where you can upload designs or be notified in cases when a contest comes up. It has no connection with the competition's final result.
